Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country
Introduction: Super Mario World had been a success, but what would come of one of Nintendo's other mascot Donkey Kong? Rareware came in a developed an awesome unforgettable experience for players of any age, through the Donkey Kong Country series. Although, Rare is now owned by Microsoft, we can still experience the trilogy on the Virtual Console thanks to Nintendo's ownership of Donkey Kong.
Story: Donkey Kong was relaxing while Diddy Kong was guarding Donkey Kong's Banana Horde. Now, this Captain K. Rool guy is very jealous of Donkey Kongs bananas, I mean who wouldn't be? So, he has his henchmen go and capture Diddy and steal all of the bananas. Donkey Kong is mad, very mad. He wants his main buddy and his bananas back. So, he goes to get them back, and so the Adventure begins.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are quite simply outstanding. The usage of many layers and excellent details make this game look better than any game of that time. Everything comes alive in this epic game with the first fully rendered graphics. Every level on this game is beautiful from jungle levels to levels in the sea. Rare truly pushed the Super Nintendo to it's limit.
Sound: I never thought I could find a better platformer soundtrack than Super Mario World, until I played this game. The sound effects fit well, the music fits the levels. The music is catchy, I hum them all freqently. My favorite song on the game goes out to the water level's music. It's so soothing. What's pretty to the eyes is also charming to the ear.
Gameplay: My favorite thing about this series is the gameplay. With many levels, secrets, and bonus levels, this game does not disappoint. There are also many buddies for Donkey Kong and Diddy to team up with, such as Rambi the Rhino and Enguarde the Swordfish. Although, some say this game is terrible, they are sadly mistaken. The controls are very responsive, each Kong has their own unique abilities. The game has a few tough parts, but nothing too difficult. Fantastic graphics, music, and gameplay? Rare has a winner here.
Replay Value: This, like Super Mario World, has you coming back for more. With many secrets to find, this game will keep you entertained for a long time, and you will have the urge to reimmerse yourself in it again and again. A true classic, it stands and raises the bar for games today, and you owe it to yourself to play it.
